10th Grade In School Field Trip Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center

Posted Date: 2/24/25 (2:57 PM)

Dear 10th Grade Families,

As part of our study of the 10th grade curriculum which includes the Holocaust, we are pleased to announce an in-school field trip during the school day featuring presenters from the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center. On March 3rd and 4th, students will participate in a program, over two class periods, entitled "Deconstructing Symbols of Hate".

This program offers students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Holocaust and examine the continuing impact of prejudice in our world today. It will focus on exploring the dark histories and misuse of symbols, emphasizing the importance of awareness and critical thinking about this imagery associated with hate. While the presentation primarily addresses hateful words and images, it may also touch on sensitive topics such as food scarcity, disease, separation from parents, and genocide. We recognize these subjects may evoke strong emotions and our aim is to approach them with care and thoughtfulness while developing critical reasoning skills.

At North Babylon High School, we encourage students to become upstanders and “Be the Change” both in school and as a citizen. We believe this program will provide valuable lessons in respect and responsibility. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Eliot Lewin                                                            Dr. Jonathan Klomp
