Drivers Ed

The Driver Education Program is certified by the NYS Education Department to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to the driving experience.  Students will receive 24 hours of mandatory classroom instruction related to recognizing and managing risk, the vehicle and its components, vehicle handling, perception and risk management, rules of the road, driver behaviors (distractions, alcohol and drug), sharing the road, attention, respect and responsibility (curriculum standards).  Students must complete and pass all written tests and assignments, AND complete driving requirements to receive an MV285, the opportunity to obtain a Senior Driver’s License (Class 5) at age 17, and an insurance reduction according to the policies of your insurance carrier.

  • TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE PROGRAM,  STUDENTS MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE & POSSESS EITHER A NYS LEARNER’S PHOTO PERMIT OR JUNIOR LICENSE TO REGISTER.

     

This includes classroom instruction by a NBHS certified teacher and issuance of a MV 262 (5 hour certificate) and a Completion of Driver Education Certificate MV278 upon completion of the program..

 

REFUND POLICY:  If a student cannot be accommodated because classes are filled, all monies will be returned.  If a student drops prior to the first class, a refund, less a $40 administrative charge will be returned.  If a student withdraws one day before the first class, a 50% refund will be granted.  Once the program has begun, no tuition refund will be authorized.  

 

ABSENCES/MAKE-UPS:  The New York State Education Department and the Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines for Driver and Traffic Safety Education require a minimum of 24 hours of classroom instruction MV285.  NO ABSENCES ARE PERMITTED. 

 

HOW TO REGISTER:  MUST HAVE ALL OF THE BELOW

  1. Completed Registration Form attached.  

  2. Check dates to ensure absences will not occur.  100% ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.

  3. Include a MONEY ORDER for $465, payable to North Babylon UFSD.

  4. Attach a clear copy of your PHOTO Permit or Junior License to the Registration form.


NOTE TO PARENTSPlease be aware that NBHS does not have the authority to waive the NYS DOE’s absence policy for Driver Education.  Please ensure your new driver can attend all classes.

LECTURE CLASSES WILL BE IN-PERSON

  • Students must attend all lecture classes to be eligible for a MV-275 Completion of DE Certificate

Lecture Dates : Wednesday’s 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

(If enrollment allows a later class will be added on Wednesday–4:30-6:00 PM)

Driving:

Days: Monday, Tuesday,Thursday, or Friday

Time: 2:15 - 3:45 pm or 3:45 - 5:15 pm

Location: 2:15 - 3:45 pm - West Parking

Lot 3:45 - 5:15 pm - West Parking Lot

 

Driving is scheduled according to DOB order.  Circle any days you cannot drive with an explanation.
